WaterGuard is a unique, clear liquid which spreads across the surface of a water body forming a very thin film to reduce evaporation. The molecules in this silicone-based liquid repel each other very strongly when they come in contact with water. This results in a swift spreading action across the surface, forming a liquid ‘blanket’ to reduce evaporation. Water losses from evaporation are immense. A single square metre of water surface can easily lose up to 8 litres to evaporation every day and an average 10-hectare dam can lose up to 800,000 litres daily, that’s 24 Million litres a month! – water that is essential for animals, growing crops and citizens alike. Trials in the US have achieved evaporation savings of 50% and above.
The components of WaterGuard are used in food and pharmaceutical industries therefore making it environmentally friendly, toxic free and non-harmful to marine and aquatic life. WaterGuard is degradable (hence maintenance), contains no toxins and is safe for drinking water. Once the film is in place, it is very resistant to disturbances. It will move around slowly over the surface but will not build up at one end of the water body. In the event of rain, the blanket will not be affected as it will allow the rain to fall through without disturbing the film.
Waterguard can simply be poured onto the water directly from the drum, and it will spread rapidly across the surface, irrespective of depth. It only takes 1ml of WaterGuard to be applied per 1 square meter per month. The self-spreading liquid need only be re-applied every 3 – 4 weeks for optimal savings. The frequency of re-application is dependent on movement in the water body.
WaterGuard in inexpensive and is available in containers from 50ml to 20L. WaterGuard is 100% safe for humans, animals and plant life, it has been tested and registered in many countries with no adverse effects on cattle, fish or any other water-life. The product was designed in Australia and IHOBE International (PTY) LTD. are the sole African distributers who import for local use. Focus has been placed on the Eastern and Western Cape due to the severe drought we are currently experiencing. We have had excellent feedback from current clients in the Agricultural industry and believe this product to be highly beneficial for water conservation. WaterGuard – a liquid blanket to save water.
