As part of its understanding that its business is dependent on the social and economic sustainability of the communities in which it operates, Smith Power Equipment is at the forefront of a coalition of several organisations that have joined hands to help drought-stricken Northern Cape farmers in the Williston, Prieska and Britstown areas.

The initiative is led by Nichol Schreuder, a representative of Kubota Western Cape, who has managed to get the Farming Cape community – represented by Gerrix Tredoux and Frikkie Barnard – to donate some feed. On the other hand, Schreuder has managed to get Kubota dealers – Wynland Agri from Paarl, Fabricius Meganiese Dienste from Ceres, Kubota R 62 and J.C Implemente – to donate towards transport costs to transport the feed. Kubota Western Cape has since matched its dealers’ contribution to make a difference in the lives of these farmers in dire straits.

On Thursday 28 November, transporters started loading the feed and left for Williston. The feed was offloaded on Saturday the 30th, and De Wet Hodgson took delivery. Schreuder was there to do the handover to a delighted Williston farming community. From there, the trucks proceeded to Prieska and Britstown to deliver some much needed feed to those farming communities as well.

The initiative is a key indicator that Smith Power, importers and distributors of Kubota products, together with their dealer network, are actively involved in communities they operate and even beyond. “This delivery is proof of our commitment to keeping agriculture going, and the wider South African community at large,” says Schreuder.
