The Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR) will announce the winners of Phase I Egg-Tech Prize awards at Poultry Tech Summit 2019, scheduled for Nov. 20-22, 2019 at the Georgia Tech Hotel & Conference Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

FFAR currently has two initiatives targeting significant poultry industry issues, the Smart Broiler project and the Egg-Tech Prize. Sarah Goldberg, FFAR’s director of communications and legislative affairs, will announce the Phase I award winners for the Egg-Tech Prize as well as the prize criteria for Phase II of this competition.

FFAR and a partnering organization have teamed up to offer up to $6 million in grants and prizes to the firm, group or individual who successfully develops technology that can accurately and rapidly determine a chick’s sex as early as possible in the egg production process. The Egg-Tech Prize encourages the development of innovative technologies that can determine a chick’s sex prior to incubation, which may allow male eggs from egg laying strains to be directed into the food supply or vaccine production.

FFAR accepted concept submissions from March 20, 2019 through May 15, 2019. Phase I provides seed funding to develop the necessary technology to compete in Phase II. The objective of Phase II is to determine a working prototype that that meets the criteria established by the Egg-Tech Prize steering committee, set to be announced at Poultry Tech Summit.

“Poultry Tech Summit focuses on the transition of innovative technologies from researchers and entrepreneurs into commercial applications for the benefit of the poultry industry. The announcement of the Phase I winners during the upcoming conference complements the objective and program of Poultry Tech Summit nicely,” said Terrence O’Keefe, editor of Egg Industry and content director at WATT Global Media.

This event is the only of its kind being offered to connect researchers and entrepreneurs with poultry sector technology experts, financiers, venture capitalists and producers looking for new projects and investments to fund.
