Angola is set to hold a US $24.9m farming census that will run across the country. The counting process will begin in March and is under a credit of the World Bank. This is according to the head of the enquiry and census department of the National Statistic Institute (INE), Paulo Fonseca.
The INE official disclosed the information during the launching of the first stage of the census. Mr. Fonseca further added that the first phase of the process would take place in the provinces of Moxico (east), Uíge (north), Cuanza Sul (centre), Benguela (centre-south) and Cunene (south).
The census acts as a pilot phase of statistical data collection. As such, it will entail information that pertains the managing and release of data concerning the structure of the agriculture, farming and fishing in the country. Bearing this is mind; the provinces that were chosen were selected on account of their agro-ecological and agricultural specificities, which secure logistical density and animals stocks.
Through this exercise, the Angolan government intends to acquire information on the basic statistical structures of agriculture and fishing sectors. This, in turn, will enable the government to perform studies or research for samples. These will then be used to facilitate the production of an integrated farming and fishing system.
The census is also expected to collect socio-demographic characteristics data, small, medium and big agricultural, livestock, fishing and farming explorations, access to agricultural tools, human resources, machines, lands, irrigation, annual cultivation, and access to veterinarian services.
